Het debuut van David Bowie was geen succes. Uitgebracht op het legendarische Deram Records werd zijn debuut positief ontvangen, maar waren er nauwelijks verkopen. Gelukkig zat Davy Jones, die vlak voor z’n debuut zijn naam veranderde naar David Bowie, omdat de zanger van The Monkees al Davy Jones heette, niet bij de pakken neer en ging door met zijn carrière. The rest is, zoals ze zeggen, history.
