A HEAVEN YOU MAY CREATE

Uit Israël komen niet alleen berichten over geweld, maar ook mooie muziek. A Heaven You May Create is een speciale uitgave ter ere van de 30e verjaardag van de Israëlische progressieve metalband Orphaned Land. Ze vierden dit jubileum met een symfoniegroep met 60 spelers die een indrukwekkende bijdrage leverden. Het concert is opgenomen in 2021, midden in de coronatijd. Dit lukte tussen twee lockdowns toen de maatregelen minder streng waren. Orphaned Land mocht zelfs optreden voor 2.500 mensen in de Israëlische Hall of Fame: Heichal HaTarbut in Tel Aviv. De muziek zit vol contrasten en combineert westerse met oosterse invloeden. Orphaned Land zoekt ook in de teksten naar contrasten bijvoorbeeld tussen licht en duisternis. Geloof is daarnaast een dankbaar thema. De band kijkt naar overeenkomsten en verschillen tussen jodendom, christendom en islam. Op dit live-album staat een mooie dwarsdoorsnede van hun carrière; van The Storm Still Rages (1993) tot The Cave (2018). (Rosanne de Boer)
