WISPELWEY, PIETER

Het ambitieuze project van Pieter Wispelwey en Paolo Giacometti om alle kamerduo's van Schubert en Brahms voor cello en piano op te nemen nadert met dit vierde deel zijn voltooiing. Interessant is het dat de heren deze stukken, die oorspronkelijk niet voor piano en cello zijn geschreven, eigenhandig hebben gearrangeerd. Het getuigt van groot intellectueel en muzikaal inzicht. Het door Schubert voor de Tsjechische violist Slavik geschreven Rondo in B-minor is van een onheilspellende en intense virtuositeit. Contrasterend is de onweerstaanbare lyriek van Brahms sonate voor viool en cello opus 78 en het zeg maar opzwepende effect van zijn sonate voor klarinet en altviool opus 120/1. De klankbeheersing en zeggingskracht van Wispelwey is nog steeds onovertroffen. Maar dit is natuurlijk wel het werk van twee schitterende muzikanten want Giacometti musiceert met zijn verfijnde pianospel op hetzelfde hoge niveau.
