Peter Wispelwey heeft samen met Paolo Giacometti alle duo's voor cello en piano van Brahms en Schubert opgenomen. Dit album is de laatste van zes albums. Voor deze opname spelen Pieter Wispelwey en Paolo Giacometti op moderne instrumenten. Peter Wispelwey, die gedurende zijn gehele leven Brahms en Schubert heeft gespeeld, zegt dat hij met nog meer verbazing kijkt naar het specifieke talent van beide componisten. Hij werd dan ook extra geroerd hoe wonderbaarlijk de wegen van inspiratie zijn en wat talent daarmee kan doen. Op deze uitstekende opname treffen we drie iconische stukken aan waaronder de eerste sonate van Brahms in G groot in plaats van D groot waarin deze transcriptie van de eerste vioolsonate wordt gespeeld. Een prettige bijkomstigheid is dat de teksten in het boekje ook in het Nederlands beschikbaar is.

The fifth and last instalment of the Schubert-Brahms chamber duo recordings by Pieter Wispelwey and Paulo Giacometti. These artists have recorded the complete chamber duos by Franz Schubert and Johannes
Brahms on 6 CDs and have been called “exceptionally imaginative and impassioned performers” (American Record Guide), and their collaboration has spawned recordings rated as “fascinating, provocative, almost per-
verse” on account of their “immediacy and involvement” (Sunday Times).
On this generous last instalment of their Schubert-Brahms pilgrimage, Pieter Wispelwey and Paolo Giacometti serve us three iconic sonatas, including a world premiere. In its original hue of G Major, Brahms’ first violin sonata op. 78 is more scintillating and transparent than the D-major cello adaptation, and much more enchanting in its opening Vivace.
