LIVE 1969

1969 was een topjaar voor The King. Met zijn Come Back-special had hij bewezen dat hij nog steeds meetelde en Elvis was klaar voor Las Vegas. Dat het publiek Elvis niet vergeten was bewees het feit dat alle 57 shows in een mum uitverkocht waren. Elvis Live 1969 geeft een registratie van elf van die shows in het International Hotel. Echt een document voor de verzamelaars. Tegelijkertijd geeft dit direct ook een beetje het probleem aan van deze box, Hoewel de setlist natuurlijk eindeloos dubbelt, zijn de shows an sich werkelijk fantastisch. Elvis zingt geweldig, is in een goed humeur en heeft er echt zin in. De band is uitstekend en de nummers in die setlist zijn heerlijk om te horen. De beginnende verzamelaar heeft hier dan ook goud in zijn handen. De mensen die Elvis al jaren volgen hebben echter een aantal van deze concerten al in de kast staan. Sommige zijn uitgebracht door het officiële Follow That Dream-collectorslabel, terwijl andere nummers al eerder verschenen zijn op verschillende boxen als het nog steeds verkrijgbare Elvis Today, Tomorrow And Forever of het al jaren vervallen Elvis Collectors Gold. Maakt dit de box minder attractief? Dat is natuurlijk een keus die elke verzamelaar zelf moet maken, maar ik ben erg positief. Elvis Live 1969 is namelijk een uitgebreid en fantastisch document, waarop Elvis op zijn hoogtepunt te horen is!
